Loved my makeup from Clinique (purple eyeshadow - yes!), I got attacked by the most persistant sales man and found the some gorgeous earpieces made locally (unfortunately they cost a fortune due to their precious stone content so they couldn’t come home with me). The nationally recognized local shirting company, Ledbury threw a wonderful relaunch party last Friday at their revamped showroom in Shockoe Bottom. The room was filled with stylish Richmonders, delicious bites from Goatocado, freshly served oysters from Rappahannock Restaurant, a bourbon bar and some funk and soul for the perfect atmosphere. We cannot wait for our FREE THE GIRLS event this weekend at both our Richmond and Charlottesville locations. We sat down and asked Jen, our Charlottesville bra fitting specialist a few things about the event and her experience with fittings so far at Derriere de Soie.
Tell us a little bit about the Free The Girls Bra Drive and why it is important for women to bring in their old gently used bras this weekend?
It is important for women to bring in their gently used bras so that they can be sent to Free The Girls. The bras help empower women who have survived sex trafficking by giving them jobs. When you bring in your gently used bras and allow us to give you a complimentary fitting, we are offering a 50% discount on a new bra purchase. Women will leave here more confident and in a good fitting bra and also knowing that they have helped survivors build a new life.
Now that you have been with Derriere de Soie for about six months, is there anything different you’ve noticed about our product and our customer wants and needs that specifically pertain to bra fitting?
Since I have been with DDS, I have noticed the varying demands of different styles for different age groups. In pertaining to the products that we currently carry and those new lines and products we have started carrying, I have noticed that the clientele at DDS have a strong affinity for beautiful well fitting garments. The women here want bras that fit them well, look beautiful, and make them feel good. For each woman, this can range from a simple black basic bra to sexy lacy bra.
A lot of women worry that “fashion” bras and sets will not fit them properly. Do you find that the best fits are only in “basic” bras, or are there options at DDS that are fashionable, fun, and fit well?
We offer multiple styles, sizes and designers of beautiful and fashionable bras. It is absolutely possible to find a well fitting set that is fun and fashionable. The definition of “basic” bras varies woman to woman but because of our fabulous buyer, there are beautiful and fashionable styles for every body type.

Well, it is incredibly important to wear a well fitting bra for many reasons. A properly fitted bra will not only support your breasts but will take pressure off your shoulders. With a snug fitting band and the appropriate cup sizes, a well fitting bra will elongate your torso, give a fabulous shape and also enhance the way all of your clothes will fit on you.
